Happy New Year! 2022 Writing Resolutions

Welcome to 2022! I hope you rang in the New Year with your friends and families. From my house to yours, I’m wishing you a healthy, happy 2022 and, of course, getting lots of reading and writing done!

This year, I have a few writing goals I’d like to share in hopes that it might inspire you as you set and create goals throughout the year. Normally, I don’t make tried and true “resolutions”. I find them hard to maintain and often lack sustainability. However, I do set goals throughout the year and, most often, they come in weekly and monthly goals.

Here are my top 5 writing goals/resolutions for the entire year. Below this list, you’ll find an even longer list of goals and ideas that apply to me and might also apply to you, as a reader or a writer.

5 Important Reading and Writing Goals I am setting for myself for the 2022:

  1. Read 25 books (24 books in 2021 was a perfect, attainable goal. I figure, why not try to add on one extra this year and see how it goes).
  2. Complete The Summoning Trials “first” draft. (I say “first” because it is technically my third rewrite but the first draft with a new plot… it’s a long confusing story but not all stories are written equally!)
  3. Continue work on a second poetry book and, if all succeeds, publish poetry book #2
  4. Write weekly, every month. I may miss a few days, and that’s FINE, I have to learn to not NEED to write every single day to feel successful with my projects. This goal is particularly specific to when I’m working on drafts.
  5. Post 52 blogs. One blog per week. I actually have already planned out more than half of the blogs I will write this year in hopes that having a plan will help keep me on track and accountable for this lofty goal.

Other writing goals:

  1. Complete NaNoWriMo 2022
  2. Begin edits on the first draft of The Summoning Trials
  3. Read a little bit nearly everyday, even if just a few sentences.
  4. Restock my etsy store with brand new bookmarks! (More on this info to come later!)
  5. Bullet journal my weekly and monthly goals
  6. Get google ads approved on this blog (it was denied once already, I think for lack of content/new blog)
  7. Journal more (it’s something I love and something I’ve given up and want to start again with)
  8. Work on my children’s book idea
  9. Get outside and hike more when the weather permits (hiking is a great way to get the creative juices flowing!) My kids and I plan to tackle the “1,000 hours outside” challenge this year!
  10. Read more of the craft books on writing that are waiting to be read/finished being read on my bookshelf
  11. Post on my Instagam account @thatbookishwritinggal daily.
  12. Find time to batch reels for said instagram account once a week
  13. Complete a 30 days of reels challenge
  14. Post poetry regularly more regularly again (at least once a week)

I know these may seem like a lot, or like lofty goals, but the nice thing is that none of these goals are set in stone. I don’t have to pressure myself to do any of these. BUT, having this list makes it hard for me to be bored. I can always come back to this list and say to myself, look at all the things you wanted to do at the beginning of the year…. why not do one of them now?

I’m curious, do you create New Years Resolutions/Yearly Goals?

What types of goals are you looking forward to completing this year the most?
